About the Role
We’re seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer with a strong back-end and platform engineering focus to help build a new, greenfield application for a leading payroll and HR solutions provider. This is a unique opportunity to architect and develop core systems from scratch, with a modern tech stack and a clean slate.
As part of a distributed engineering team, you'll lead back-end and platform development using Python and Django, design robust APIs, and leverage AWS infrastructure for scalability and performance.
While you’ll work across the stack, your primary contributions will be in back-end services, APIs, authentication, and systems integration. You’ll also collaborate with front-end developers working in React (Material UI) and integrate with a headless CMS (e.g., Directus).
What You’ll Do
-
Lead development of the back-end architecture for a greenfield application
-
Build and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs to power internal and external applications
-
Design and implement secure, scalable services using Python/Django
-
Manage infrastructure using AWS (e.g., Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, CloudWatch, etc.)
-
Integrate with a headless CMS (e.g., Directus) for flexible content management
-
Collaborate with front-end engineers using React (MUI) to build a seamless user experience
-
Ensure system performance, reliability, and observability through effective logging, testing, and monitoring
-
Contribute to DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, IaC, and environment management
-
Help establish best practices in coding standards, architecture, and security
What We’re Looking For
-
10+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on back-end and API development, building software applications from the ground up
-
Expertise in Python and the Django framework (including DRF – Django REST Framework)
-
Strong understanding of API design, versioning, and documentation
-
Proficient with AWS and cloud-native architectures (e.g., serverless functions, managed services)
-
Solid experience working with SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and ORM systems
-
Comfortable working on cross-functional, distributed teams and mentoring peers
Nice-to-Have:
-
Experience integrating or managing headless CMS platforms like Directus
-
Familiarity with front-end frameworks, particularly React + Material UI
This is a remote, work from home position. This role is to be filled outside the states of California and Colorado.
