Data Engineer

A leading organization in the New York City area is seeking a hands on Data Engineer to support the expansion and ongoing development of its data platform, business applications, and integration environment. This position requires an engineer who can guide best practices for working with enterprise data while remaining deeply involved in technical execution. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise across AWS data services and a proven ability to build and maintain scalable pipelines, data jobs, and warehouse structures.

This is a full time, on site role based in New York City. Remote work is not available. Only applicants currently residing within the NYC metro region will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, refine, and support scalable data pipelines that enable reliable ETL and ELT workflows across diverse internal systems and sources
• Collaborate closely with Data Science, Analytics, and business stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritize initiatives, and deliver well structured datasets and models
• Monitor and optimize scheduled data jobs, ensuring stability, performance, and timely delivery across the data ecosystem
• Build and maintain data models and schemas in Redshift and related technologies to enable analytics and self service reporting
• Implement validation checks, quality frameworks, and alerting processes that maintain confidence in the accuracy and availability of data
• Utilize AWS tools including Glue, Lambda, S3, Athena, EMR, and others to create modular, reusable, cloud native data solutions
• Enhance data lineage, cataloging, and documentation practices to support transparency and long term reusability of data assets
• Maintain technical documentation, workflow definitions, and version controlled artifacts using tools such as Git and dbt
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring peers, sharing best practices, and championing scalable engineering standards
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives
• Stay informed on new technologies, frameworks, and industry approaches to identify opportunities for increased automation and innovation

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of experience in software or data engineering with a history of designing and supporting robust data systems. Leadership or mentorship experience is a plus
• Advanced Python skills with hands on experience creating APIs, building ETL processes, and automating workflows
• Expert level SQL capabilities with the ability to write and optimize complex queries against large datasets
• Direct experience with the AWS data ecosystem including Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, EMR, EC2, DynamoDB, Lambda, and Redis
• Strong grounding in data warehousing concepts and data modeling techniques, including dimensional modeling, star and snowflake schemas
• Familiarity with dbt and modern ELT or analytics engineering practices
• Experience working with structured, semi structured, and unstructured datasets
• Understanding of data governance, quality, and observability tools used to maintain integrity and reliability of production data
• Ability to prepare clear documentation and communicate effectively with technical and non technical teams
• A solutions oriented approach with the ability to own projects from design through deployment

 

Work Location

This role is fully on site in New York City. Relocation is not offered and only candidates currently based in the NYC metropolitan area will be considered.
